In November 2023, the Retirement Living Council released a very important report titled ‘Better Housing for Better Health’.
The report noted that Australia is currently experiencing a demographic shift propelled by an ageing population. Currently there are approximately 2 million people aged over 75 around the country, and over the next two decades, this population is expected to increase by nearly 70% to about 3.4 million.
This demographic shift has significant ramifications for the level of care, wellbeing and support services that will be needed, as well as the retirement communities that will need to be developed to cater for this population.
The report explores these demographic trends, and the ramifications for both Federal and State governments, and the ageing population.
